ROTAVAC 5D PFS

Rotavac 5D is aLive attenuated  oral vaccine used to protect against rotavirus infections, which can cause severe diarrhea and dehydration in infants and young children.

How It Works

Rotavac 5D contains a live, attenuated virus that helps the immune system build protection against rotavirus. It is a monovalent vaccine made of Rotavirus strain 116E.

Administration

• Given orally in a series of 3 doses.Always give the vaccine drop by drop, not in one go.
• Typically administered at 6, 10, and 14 weeks of age.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Mild diarrhea
• Irritability
• Fever

Severe reactions are rare.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Pregnancy: Not applicable, as it is intended for infants.
• Lactation: Not applicable.Safe for breastfeeding mothers to administer to their infants.

Minimum Age Group

• Minimum Age: Administered to infants starting at 6 weeks old to 8 months/ 34 weeks( CDC)

Myth:

• Rotavirus vaccine will protect against all varieties of Rotavirus diarrhoeas.

Fact:

• Rotavac 5d will protect only against diarrhea caused by the 116E antigen of Rotavirus.

Contraindications

• Allergic Reactions: Not for infants with severe allergies to any component of the vaccine.
• Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID): Should not be given to infants with SCID.
• History of Intussusception: Not recommended for infants with a history of intussusception.
