Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate VaccineMenactra is a vaccine designed to protect against meningococcal disease, a serious bacterial infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis. This infection can lead to meningitis, an inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, as well as septicemia, a life-threatening bloodstream infection. Meningococcal disease can progress rapidly and is potentially fatal, making vaccination crucial, especially for those at higher risk.Menactra ®, Meningococcal (Groups A, C, Y and W-135) Polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate Vaccine
How It Works
Menactra is a conjugate vaccine that targets four of the most common serogroups of Neisseria meningitidis—A, C, W, and Y. The vaccine contains inactivated bacterial polysaccharides linked to a protein, which helps the immune system recognize and fight off the bacteria if exposed. By stimulating the production of antibodies, Menactra provides immunity against these specific strains.
