Varilrix Vaccine
Varilrixis a vaccine used to protect against varicella (commonly known as chickenpox), a highly contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Chickenpox typically causes an itchy rash and flu-like symptoms and can lead to severe complications, particularly in infants, adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Vaccination with Varilix significantly reduces the risk of developing chickenpox and its associated complications.
How It Works
Varilrix contains a live, attenuated strain of the varicella-zoster virus (Oka strain). The virus in the vaccine has been weakened so that it cannot cause the disease in healthy individuals but is still able to stimulate the immune system to develop long-lasting immunity against chickenpox.
Administration
- Dosage: Varilrix is typically administered in a two-dose series.
- Schedule: Typically administered in two doses > 12 month age- 12 yr,2 doses-3 month apart.> 12 yr-2 doses 4-8 wk apart.
