VAXIFLU 4 SH

Vaxiflu is a vaccine used to protect against seasonal influenza (flu) virus Type A & B. It helps prevent the spread of flu viruses and reduces the risk of severe illness.

How It Works

Vaxiflu contains inactivated influenza viruses, which stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies against the virus without causing the disease. It has WHO recommended inactivated SH strain (Southern Hemisphere 2024). Split virion 

Ideal time for vaccine

• Recommended 2-4 weeks before the start of the flu season (before monsoon rains) for optimal protection.

Administration

• Given as an annual injection (Intramuscular) till the first 5 yrs, usually in the Lateral thigh (<36 month) or upper arm (Deltoid >36 month).

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Soreness at the injection site
• Mild fever
• Fatigue
• Muscle aches

Severe reactions are rare.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Pregnancy: Can be given to pregnant women, as flu is an inactivated vaccine.
• Lactation: Safe for nursing mothers.

Minimum Age Group

•  Approved for use in individuals aged 6 months and older- No age limit.
•  >65 yrs : All adults

Contraindications

• Allergic Reactions: Not for those with severe allergies to any component of the vaccine or a history of severe allergic reactions to flu vaccines. Egg protein allergies
• Previous history of GBS after flu vaccine 
• Previous Syncope after flu vaccine
• Bleeding disorders/ on anticoagulants

 Dose & schedule:

• 6 month-35 month- 1-2 doses, 4 wk apart
• 3 yr- 8 yr-1-2 doses, 4 wk apart
• >9 yr - Only 1 dose

Special Conditions:

Annual Boosters -Respiratory disorder,Asthma,Kidney diseases,Diabetes mellitus,Immunodeficiency diseases, On Immunosuppressive medications,>65yr age
